Transfer of files from one laptop to another?

Sorry if this is too simple a question, but I honestly can’t find the answer.

Per MyPassport instructions - I have the option to Retrieve backed up files to their “original location” or create a “retrieved data” folder.  However, what I’m wanting to do is transfer retrieved files to a new laptop.  I used the standard (By category) method of backing up my C and D drives - but I can’t tell if there is an easy way to restore those files into a NEW location (new because its a new laptop).

What I had assumed would happen was that a retrieval would give me the option t coppy files according to the file structure from the old laptop - but I’m not sure that that can or will happen.  Any help would be welcome.

Hello,

The WD Smartware will not give you the option to retrieve the files to the same file structure. I recommend that you retrieve to a new folder and then relocate the files yourself.

Thank  you.  I now have to find out what to do when the new laptop doesn’t detect smartware options at all… but for now, this answers my initial questions, so kudos!
