Transfer from Mac to Windows 10

Hello, I’ve just switched to a Windows 10 machine from Mac OSX, I’ve been using Time Machine on OSX for my backups without any trouble. Last weekend I spilled a glass of water and fried the logic board on my MBP which gave me the catalyst to switch to a Windows desktop. All of my files are safe and sound on my WD My Book for Mac, but so far I haven’t been able to access them on the new computer.

The external drive is plugged into a USB 3.0 drive, and shows up in “Devices and Printers” but not in the File Explorer. I’ve tried downloading HSFExplorer, but when I tell it to Load a File System from Device, it says it can’t find a device.

So what’s my next move to restore my files?

This won’t be easy.

The File System Mac OS uses to handle Time Machine backups (HFS+) is not supported by Microsoft Windows. You would need to install an application or extension for reading HFS+ hard drives without formatting your unit.

Furthermore, backups made with Apple Time Machine are designed to be restored to Macs only, so even if you can access the core backup file it may not be recoverable in Windows unless you can obtain an application for said purposes.
