Sync between two My Cloud 2TB - Off-site backup My Cloud to My Cloud

I have two My Cloud 2TB drives at two different physical addresses(and networks) to provide off-site backup. I would like to sync the two so that I have an off-site backup. When I am on either network, I would like to access the “local” drive and have the updates sync to the other.

If both options are not available, I would like to have the off-site drive act as a backup and have the on-site drive automatically backed up to the off-site drive.

Can any of this be done? Although I thought I read that off-site backups of My Cloud devices was possible, I have been unable to find any documentation.

Thank you.

Third item.

Thank you. I will check that out. I noticed that the web interface on my My Cloud drives does not have a backup button so I fear my version will not work.

Thanks again.

My apologies; that search is for WD Sync, which is for syncing computers to the MyCloud.

To back up one MyCloud to a remote MyCloud, the Safepoint facility should do it for v4, gen1 devices. I’m not sure if the Backup utility (which replaced Safepoint) on the v2 firmware, gen2 devices supports remote targets.

Download the user manual for whichever MyCloud device you have.

If one does a subforum search they’ll find this is discussed in a number of earlier threads. See below. The newer v2.x My Cloud units apparently do have the capability to backup to a similar version My Cloud at a remote location, however the older v4.x My Cloud units do not officially have remote backup capability. Unofficially, if one has the older v4.x My Cloud they may be able to use Rsync via SSH to backup to a remote location.

Thanks Bennor; I got my Gens muddled up…

Hi All, Thanks for the info.

How do I know what Generation I have?

Thanks.

Go to the Dashboard of your My Cloud … see what the number is of your firmware, if it starts with 4.xxx. then it’s Gen1 … if it starts with 2.xxx then it’s a Gen2.

Thank you SectorGZ, Firmware V4., Gen 1. I feel kind of bummed. I recently bought these and they are already a generation behind.

Have a great day.
