Swap HDD inside mycloud

Hi
Basically I want to know what’s involved in swapping out the HD on my Mycloud device
( http://www.staples.co.uk/external-hard-drives/cbs/427306.html )

The Warrenty is already void, basically it dropped to the floor from a desk, and would spin & stop. So after opening up, found the disks are badly scratched! So that’s going in the bin.

So what I need to know is, can I put a HDD in place, and what do i need to do to get it to work properly?

And if possible, can a larger drive go in?

I’m not sure if there’s some sort of software on the board which attaches to it which does the magic, or it needs formatting with some software??

Many thanks.

Yes you can replace the hard drive that ships with the My Cloud with another drive. There are a variety of threads/posts that detail the “unbricking” process that is used when one replaces the hard drive. I did the same. Replaced a non functioning 4T drive with, first a spare 250GB drive I had laying around, then replaced the 250GB drive with a 1T drive that is in the WD My Cloud enclosure currently. Some of us have had problems with the Dashboard not working properly (or not showing at all) after unbricking then upgrading to the latest firmware.

Do a forum search for “unbricking” and you’ll find several threads with various methods used. I detail my steps at the following link that worked for me to unbrick then fix the no Dashboard issue. No guarantee it will work for others.

Thanks for the info. I’ll have a look into it over the weekend!
