Suddenly became locked without first creating a password

Hi,

Please help. My WD SmartWare external hard drive has suddenly become locked without first creating a password for the drive. Does anyone know how I can unlock so I can retrieve 8 years worth of data for my job.  I need your help please

One thing that  works on rare occasions is to try the drive on a different PC or user account.
