Sorry if this has already been answered, but when I try to load content onto the MyCloud using the Windows app, I find that when I copy a folder, everything in that folder gets copied OK, but any subfolders are not copied. I have a lot of subfolders to keep my data organized, and it is totally unworkable to copy each subfolder by hand into the appropriate main folder…
Has anyone else encountered this, and is there an answer? Sorry in advance if this is painfully simple or obvious, maybe I just don’t see it because I’m very frustrated with all the issues I’m having.
I assume that we are talking about the Mycloud windows desktop app.
If so you do realise that you don’t see the folders in the right hand panel, that just shows files. All the folders are on the left hand panel under the drive name and have a blue folder icon. I have just copied a folder with sub-folders to the mycloud and they are all there. Look directly at the drive by either mapping it in explorer or by using explorer to access it via network places / drives, this is the best way to check the folders and files.
Thanks for your advice. You’re correct that I’m referring to the MyCloud Windows app, and I am aware that the right panel only shows files. On the left hand side, in the folder tree view, there are no ‘plus signs’ indicating that the view can be expanded to show the subfolders. I’m not sure what to do from here, other than copy manually one by one.
I would check the folder structure through Explorer, but I have the same problem I think others have - I can only access public shares. Private shares seems inaccessible - any password that I enter (from any user) gets rejected. So I cannot confirm from Explorer without making all my private files public, which I’m reluctant to do.
Actually, it seems to have resolved itself now. I think it was just overloaded, the dashboard didn’t want to connect, and the drive could only be seen intermittently on the network from other devices… When I tried to use dashboard and Quick View to reboot the cloud, nothing happened (and Quick View crashed).
I had to pull the power cord and hope I would lose something. But when I did, the system came back after a few minutes with a bunch of extra folders - including all of the subfolders and all the files in them, as far as I can tell. So I think it might just be something about the order in which it chooses to create folders during a large transfer. Perhaps the lesson is simply to move data in smaller batches to avoid overloading it and causing it to freeze like that. (Note that this was direct transfer using the rear USB).
To answer your first question: I can only access the non-public shares via the Windows/iOS apps. I cannot use Explorer or Finder. When I try, I am met with a login request. No combination of email addresses, user names, etc. succeeds.
The only information I get is the error message: “Drive\Folder is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator… Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again.”
Obviously I have tried closing dashboard, the Windows App, and even Quick View before attempting the logon, but it doesn’t change the outcome. Not sure yet how to handle this, maybe someone else in the forums has solved it. Thanks again!
Edit: Although Explorer doesn’t work, I can map the drives by going through the web interface, choosing “View Shares”, then opening from there. The shares then get successfully mapped and become usable (even private ones).
