Ssh no longer works since firmware 2.31.193

I have two identical EX4100 NAS devices. Ever since firmware 2.31.193 installed on August 8th ssh connections no longer work. I have checked and reset the ssh password but no luck.

“root” is no longer exposed for external user login access and has been replaced by an alias called “sshd”. Please login as the user “sshd” (without the double quotes of course)

Any particular reason why WD did not mention this change with a bit more details then “Improved SSH login configuration”. This is a bit vague.
