Share Permissions/Windows 7

Hello! Ok, I have been battling the WD Cloud 2TB unit for about a month. I have also been working with level II tech support as well. The problem I am having are share permissions. When I apply share permissions (Full Access) to a share, I can not map a network drive. Windows does not accept my login credentials. In addition, My Cloud takes awhile to appear in Network. Below is my history:

  1. upgraded firmware to the latest version (mistake)

  2. deleted any login credentials in Windows

  3. tech support has now sent me a brand new WD Cloud

  4. new router

  5. current firmware version: 04.00.00-607. Was on the latest FW with my problem. Now on previous version with my new NAS.

Are there router configurations/tweaks I should apply?

So, I am at a stand still at this point. The unit does not perform as promised. I am now on my third Cloud, and all three have the same result.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thank you.

I don’t thnk it is your issue but FW 4.00.01-623 is better and you should probably upgrade

can you connect to the public share? I suspect you are doing this

WIndows only allows a single user to connect to shares on a single device so if you connect to a public share on the mycloud and other connection is also public which means any non-public connection fails

disconect any mycloud drives, in a command prompt run net use to verify.

connect to the non-public share 1st, then any public shares

if this doesn’t work clear credentials, reboot windows and try again

Thank you! I am not using the “public” share that is provided because you can not apply permissions to it.

I have 2 users with their own shares. Each share has full access permission with the admin account, and the user.

I created my own public folder where I can apply share permissions. That’s the problem, Windows does not take to them. I have tried everything.

What about the router? Are there any configurations in port forwarding that need to be applied?

Yes, I can connec to the public share.

so the user can connect to there own share but not the other one? the user needs to be granted access to all non-public shares they will use as they can only connect to the mycloud as 1 user. and the 1st share they connect to can not have public access unless all shares they need are set to public

the router is probably ok if you haven’t made changes to it

Users have a difficult time connecting to any share that has permissions. If I take away share permissions, all is fine. That’s my problem right now.

Does my user account for Windows and My Cloud need to be the same, or can they be different? Could that be my issue?

how are you trying to connect?

reboot the windows PC and don’t connect to any share

try opening file explorer and in the address bar enter \IPaddress then press enter and see what you get. Try clicking on one of the non-public shares

Does my user account for Windows and My Cloud need to be the same, or can they be different? Could that be my issue?

can be same or different but should be in the same workgroup

Definitely in the same workgroup. I will take another look and see what happens.

Thank you.
