Setting up MyCloud

So I just bought a MyCloud that I would like to utilize in our company. This is all I’m trying to do and it’s driving me crazy because a lot of these posts keep mentioning how the dashboard to this device has all these different options and my dashboard (on mycloud.com) does not have any of the options that have been spoken about.

  1. I would like for each project manager and supervisor to have their own access to their specified/private folder with Read Only access.
  2. I, the IT Administrator, would like to have my own private folder.
  3. I would like to add specific documents and applications for said project managers and supervisors into their own private folder.
  4. I would like to have access to their folders, in case I need to remove / add files
  5. I want to keep the public folder in case there’s something that needs to be shared company wide, but it is imperative to have private folders for specific people.
  6. I created a user in the MyCloud dashboard with, “Test” with the test email address, and added “device name” of “Test” (I assume this is a private folder). In the dashboard, I cannot see this Test folder while logged in as my user (Admin), when I UNC into my My Cloud Device, on the other hand I see it. I try to log into it using the test account I created, which I assume is the test email address and the test password I created for it and it does not accept the user/pass with an error that I have too many connections. Okay fair enough.

I log into a computer I just finished imaging, UNC into the device again, use my test creds, I get in, and try to open the “Test” folder I created during the creation of the Test user account. It asks for my creds… again, I use the same credentials and apparently it’s incorrect… this is through a Windows 7 machine… so I get no error, just keeps popping up for user/pass.

I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, this all should be a straight forward process. I also don’t know what dashboard some of you are viewing, but I don’t have any of these options that you claim to have, if I did, I’m sure I wouldn’t be here asking for help in what my goals are with this device.

So far it appears that I may have to return this device as it cannot accomplish the simple goal I have and really should not even be considered a NAS.

That’s not the Dashboard. The MyCloud.com is the web portal for remote access using a web browser. Generally to access the My Cloud Dashboard you would use the following address in a web browser:
Windows: http://wdmycloud
Mac: http://wdmycloud.local

See the following WD Support document for more information about accessing the My Cloud Dashboard:

If you haven’t done so already you should take some time to read through the My Cloud User Manual (http://support.wdc.com/product.aspx?ID=904) which explains the various features and options of the My Cloud. Also see the My Cloud Dashboard Help for more information on how to use the Dashboard options.
