I have had my computer backing up to my hard drive (My Passport - p/n: WDBY8L0020BSL) (HP Pavilion Windows 7) ever since I bought it . I had to do a factory reset on the computer then installed the retrieved contents file. (I have tried cut/paste and drag/drop files back into the proper places, neither works) I click on the desktop shortcut Retrieved Contents>Michelle-HP>C>Users>Michelle. It moves the file names but won’t give me access. From there I keep getting error messages - Documents, “Word cannot open this document: user does not have access privileges.” or “You don’t have permission to open this file. Contact the file owner or an administrator to obtain permission.”
I am the system administrator, it’s a home computer, not networked and both profiles are admins (I did retrieve to the same profile I backed up from.) It moves them but won’t let me open them, same with photos. It moves the files and folders containing files and file names but not the photos themselves (not even thumbnails) I get the error message “You’ll need administrator permission to copy this file.” I check the box ‘do this for the next __ conflicts’ and hit the continue/administrator key. Still doesn’t work. I try to open one “Photo Gallery/Viewer can’t open this photo because you don’t have permission to access this location.” When I backed them up I didn’t set it to restore to the original places because the programs may not have been there still.
What am I missing? From what I’ve found I should be able to copy/paste or drag and drop the files where I want to. Plain English please I am not a tech savvy person.
Thanks
