This will only happen if you have an old smartware version
on the newer versions you can continue from you left on the backup
Wizer,
I am running Smartware 1.6.2, maybe I did something wrong. I had to reinstall my OS on a new drive, them I have installed Smartware from scratch. I have open Smartware and I went to the backup tab, I saw that none of the data to backup was marker so I manually mark it again and I have clicked on “start backup” after I have done this, Smartware started a new backup, I went to the hidden smartware folder and I saw it creating more 2 volumes again, one for drive c: and another for drive d:
So I ended up with 4 volumes on the MyBook Live Duo with duplicated data as follow:
Volume.b821ac9f.ef75.4343.b164.80634344343 - for drive c
Volume.b821ac9f.ef75.4343.b164.806e6344334 - for drive d
Volume.b821ac9f.ef75.4343.b164.80643344344 - for drive c
Volume.b821ac9f.ef75.4343.b164.806e6434343 - fo drive d
what did I do wrong? what I am supposed to do after reinstalling the Smartware? Do I need to wait some time to it to identify the old backup?
Thank you for your help
If you reinstall the OS that will show as a new computer for Smartware
you can restore the files and then complete a full backup and continue from there
Wizer,
If my hard drive crash, I will have to replace it, reinstall, and restore the backup, since smartware will think it is a new computer it will not recognize the backup and so I cant restore it using the Smartware interface.
So why do I need a Smartware backup if I can’t restore it properly? of course I can just map the smartware partition and get all the mess that is there, all the files plus the thousands files version and them spend some hours to make a cleanup of the file versions. Seting the file history to 0 is not a valid workaround.
Does this makes sense? or I am missing something? Anyway we can ask WD to fix this issue?
All the best,
I know it’s a pain but for some reason must backup applications work this way
I prefer using a mix of Win Backup and manual backups
you can go to the ideas/issues board and report this to WD
