I have questions about rebuilding RAID on a My Cloud Mirror. It has two 2TB WD Reds installed and configured for RAID 1 in a single RAID volume. The Mirror has the latest firmware installed. A critical alert for degraded raid health is reported for the RAID volume but Disk Status for both drives shows Good, both pass the Mirror’s Quick Test diagnostics, and I’m able to access data stored on them. Auto-Rebuild RAID is set to Off.
There’s no info in the manual or in the knowledgebase on recovering from degraded RAID health but it looks like a RAID rebuild is the procedure to follow since that’s used for recovering from a failed drive. I don’t see an option to manually launch a rebuild so I’m assuming setting Auto-Rebuild to On will immediately start the rebuild? Other than copying data off of the Mirror, are there any other steps to take before rebuilding the RAID volume? Are data safe during a Full Test diagnostics? Both Quick and Full tests appear to be hardware diagnostic tests, so I’m assuming Scan Disk is a file system diagnotics test that automaticlly repairs (patches) errors it finds?
One last general question: after shutting down/powering off the Mirror, can one of its RAID 1 drives be pulled out, and inserted into an external drive enclosure that has a usb interface for connection to a computer to recover data off of it?
Thanks in advance for the time and assistance!
