What does it do? It keeps running on one of my Nas boxes, i can hear the disk going and im not using the nas. Is it indexing? Ive tried shutting the nas down etc but it just comes back on and it seems to run for a long time, this morning for example its been at least 2 hours. I run Emby and Gsync but as far as i can tell these 2 apps arnt doing anything. Im on the latest firmware of 5.3.108
Thanks in advance for any advice
The disk activity you’re hearing on your NAS is probably just background stuff running, not anything you’re actively using. On Synology systems, this can be media indexing for Video Station, Photo Station, or Emby, which scans your files to make thumbnails and metadata; it could also be file system maintenance or volume checks. Scheduled backups or syncs, like Cloud Sync or Hyper Backup, and antivirus or integrity scans can also keep the drives spinning. These things run even when the NAS looks idle and can take a while, especially after updates or adding new files. You can check what’s going on in Resource Monitor, Task Scheduler, or the Media Server/Indexing Service settings. It’s all normal and safe, but it will keep your disks active.
