I have a 7 year old PR4100 with four WD40EFRX drives (4 T). A few days ago one drive failed but I had no data loss due to Raid-5. WD tech support pointed me at a compatibility guide for a drive replacement but that document looks out of date. The compatible drives in the guide are WD40EFRX and WD40EFAX. Looking at the reseller market, it looks like the EFRX is obsolete and replaced by the EFPX but that is not listed in the compatibility guide. Does anyone know if the EFPX can be used in combination with the other three EFRX drives? No answer yet from WD tech support on that question.
One curious thing is that after shutting down the NAS for a few days, it started back up with no drive error. Very strange but I assume it will fail again in the near future so I think I should get a replacement drive if I can just figure out which one to buy.
Another idea is to replace all 4 drives with higher capacity drives. Where can I get a recommendation for drive type compatible with the PR4100?
