Plugging both HDs into new housing - problems to be expected?

Some months ago my MyCloud Home Duo quit connecting to my network. After referring to all descriptions available and performing all types of resets (without full reset to factory settings and erasing all data on the HDs - hopefully) etc., I bought an empty housing as last idea to solve the problem.

Is ist possible to just plug both hard drives into the empty new housing and try restarting from there, or will this force some kind of reset or cf.?
