Hi
I have got a pr4100 latest software and latest plex
When streaming x264 and h264 video I get artefacts and blocky chucks of video on screen?
I have gigabit network showing 35mb/s
No other units running going straight to my Sony 4K TV running android
The artefacts are sporadic and seem to be more often when complex fast action is present.
CPU and ram seem ok
Any ideas please?
Ps if I stream to my TV and use VLC app all is ok
Cheers graham
Since streaming with a different app allows for proper playback then it could be a client-specific issue related to they way your TV interacts with the Plex app.
Hi there, the artifacts means the plex is forced to transcode for some reasons. You can verify this very simple way:
Start movie which is giving you these artifacts on tv. Go to the plex web interface. Click the status icon on the top right (should have little 1 on it as indication that one action is in progress). Click the Now playing secion if not active already. Now you should see the the backdrop of movie which is playing. Move the mouse over it, and you should see little i icon in the circle. Click it. Now you can see if Plex is transcoding the video and/or audio.
Now, to get rid of the artefact, we need to make plex direct play it.
That can be archieved by converting the video into the format that is supported by your TV, the safest bet being h.264 for video and ac3 for audio (aac is good as well, but Plex is currently having issues with multi-channel aac).
Disregard this paragraph, I did not notice that you mention codecs used in your first post.
Another issue may be setting of your client on tv - it may be set to maximum bitrate lower that actual bitrate of the movie, forcing plex to transcode. Some TV’s also have limit of h.264 level that they are able to play, usual limitation being 4.2 If someone went ballistic when encoding the movie and set the level to 5 or higher, that may be issue as well.
I do not know how familiar are you with plex or video codecs, but would you be able to post mediainfo of the video you are trying to play?
Hi
i checked it and yes plex is transcoding and the format is h264 but i will have to check what encoding it is
cheers graham
I have the same issue, only solution is to remove plex from the apps and reinstall the original outdated plex app to get good videos again.
