So I have started watching anime on my pr4100 with plex and the quality does a dive bomb with artifacts all over when ever there are a lot of things happening on the screen, any ideas on how i can fix this? I tried converting one of the videos to tv quality and that didn’t help.
Plex on the WDs don’t support transcoding as far as I know… so the video needs to be a format that’s natively playable by your playback device.
Pro series support hw transcoding. Unfortunately, result is dependent on quality of source and best practice is to encode video to format that is playable by your device so Plex can direct stream it without transcoding. Container does not matter that much, but I would try to encode video with h.264 on high@4.0 profile at maximum of 20 Mbps bitrate for maximum compatibility…
Yeah I cant afford the time to encode around 5 terabytes of video plus all the new videos i get every day just to make them play correctly on plex, after all I picked up this nas just so I could play perfect plex videos without having to keep my computer on all the time plus its not even transcoding the videos.
Its bad enough I cant get the rss stuff working or a vpn setup.
So I’m reinstalling plex on the server and if that doesn’t work then im returning this nas for a refund.
fixed the problem, had to reinstall plex to a older version.
For people that find this thread while searching, can you tell what version you went from and to?
I installed
1.3.3.3148-b38628e
December 15, 2016
for pr4100 and it streams poorly with artifacts. stock version from the app’s install in wd works perfectly fine.
