I’m setting up my WD Passport Pro with my iMac, OS Sierra 10.12.4. Before I plugged in and attempted to connect to Wifi and do the set-up, I reformatted the drive for Macintosh/Journaled. I also renamed the drive.
The drive blue light appears, meaning it is connected via wifi, but When I click on the wifi ID My Passport 5GHz, I get the window which asks for a WD password to continue. I don’t know how/where to find this password. Also, even though the blue light for wifi is visible on the Passport, the drive does not appear on my Shared list, nor on my Desktop.
If you can help me get this working, I would really appreciate it. I have already viewed the WD Michael Bennion video on set-up on Youtube, but no mention is made of a password, nor is there any troubleshooting guide that I am aware of.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

For the Passport Wireless Pro, the initial password would be the last 8 characters of the drive’s serial number. This information is found on the quick start guide included in the packaging as well as on page 8 of the user manual. I provided a link to the My Passport Wireless Pro webpage where you can download the user manual and any software you might need.

Thank you Scott. I finally found the user manual and dl last night. The only Quick Start Guide which arrived in my package was a square piece of cardboard printed with a couple of diagrams. They did show where the person was to be found but the word “password” didn’t appear so I first thought it might be a serial number. The drawing of the drive also looked more like a cell phone. Confusion reigned!
The laptop and drive still won’t connect via wifi, but it does work with my iMac. I plan to use the manual and try the setup again when I get to my destination.
The hot link is on my iMac.
I appreciate your response. Thanks a lot.
