Over-provisioning on newer NVME Drives?

I recently installed a 1TB WD Black SN770 and have it over-provisioned (OP) by 10% (i.e. 10% of drive is unallocated). I’m just curious whether this still improves performance and longevity, or is the OP from the factory plenty? I believe the factory OP may already be 10% based on the fact that the drive shows total space of 931.50 GB (and 1TB = 1024 GB) If there is some benefit than I’ll leave it. If not, I might as well get the space back. Thanks.

Thanks Keerti_01. Every WD customer using SSD NAS has this same problem and the online solution is to call the WD Support Team? Why not find the answer and post it? You are costing your customer time & money, and your own company time and money. good lord.

Mr. Mccainmw, did you every find the answer yourself? If so, please post it. Thanks so much.

I also find the answer. Please tell me in details.

I’ve used a WD Black SN770 myself, and from what I’ve seen, the factory OP is usually enough for most people. The 10% that’s already unallocated is there to help with performance and longevity, so adding more probably won’t make a noticeable difference unless you’re doing something like video editing or running a server that constantly writes data. If you’re just gaming or using it for regular stuff, you can definitely reclaim that space without any real downside. I did the same and haven’t had issues with performance or lifespan.
