WD RED 2.5 Drives

Hi there

I am about to purchase some WD10JFCX drives, which are the 1TB WD 2.5 RED drives, but I noticed they are not listed on the Western Digital Website anymore.

Does anyone know if they have or are about to be discontinued? I don’t want to end up with some drives that I cannot replace!

I did ask WD Pre-sales support on Monday, but am yet to receive a reply…

thanks

I don’t have that specific information.

Once you get a reply from WD please let the community know if the unit still being manufactured.

Hi

Support have confirmed only the drives listed at https://www.wdc.com/en-ie/products/internal-storage/wd-red.html are in production, and any drives not listed are NOT in production.

So that means the 2.5 NAS drives are no longer, which is a shame, from my perspective at least.

This is a GREAT disappointment. The 1TB disk is really too small for NAS use.
I can understand if it it not selling. A 2.5" 4TB Red would be something completely different,

I currently have one NAS with 6 x 4TB 3.5" Red and another with 8 x 3TB 3.5" Red
which I built myself, providing around 15 TB storage.

It is really difficult to find a suitable chassi for 6-8 disk 3.5" systems.
Got my hands on a a cheap 2U server chassi with 8 disks but
due to the small fan size, they are real noisy.

Now with the 4 & 5 TB Green disks you suddenly have something very different.
2 x Icy Box 2.5" 4 slot chassies each fitting into a 5½" slot in an ATX chassi
would allow you to build a really small NAS.

Then they are advertising how bad the greens are for NAS,
to make you really uncomfortable in using them…

The new Samsung Evo 4TB SSD is only 7 mm high.
Would fit 8 of those inside a single 5½ slot.
Only $15k for 8 disks…
Oh Well…
