I don’t know where to start, I’m on my 2nd unit and I’ve been using this product for over 3 years, WHEN it works it’s great. I’ve Run it under Win 7, 8.1, and 10, and Ms has not changed anything setting wise when comes to network settings.
It’s great when its working, but when it not look out, I’ve wasted more hours with this black box than anyone should have to. I don’t know if some of issues are from junk or inadequate firmware or what. And forget about proper support with WD, I’ve been waiting over two months for WD Tier (2) to call me back.
I have the unit hard wired, so it’s never a network issue on my end!
Problems:
-
its working perfectly, you turn the WD Live off, and then the next time you turn it back on, it can’t find your PC, sometimes if you’re lucky a restart of the device will allow it to reconnect, it that doesn’t work then sometimes you have to restart your PC. Sometimes neither will work, and you have to reset the unit back to factory defaults, and half of the time that solves nothing, it just won’t see my Desktop, it picks up my laptop and NAS.

Under “All Networks” when you’ve setup Media streaming Options, and I tried that both ways, off and discovered allowing permissions. But it makes NO difference how you set “Password Protected Sharing” it is on or turn off, even if turn OFF, my unit still requires my Windows login pwd. I have physically mess with the black box for over two hours, and it can never find my PC that it was just streaming from the night before. I don’t see why when you have password protected sharing turned off the unit should still be requiring a login pwd?

This one of the biggest things that irritates me, you start the unit up, it discovers the network, joins, list your videos, but will just sit and spin and never actually play any of them. You have to restart the device almost every time, rarely will it play a video first time it’s turned on.

The last couple of months, and this is a new issue with my 2nd unit, you can be have way through a video (supported format) and all of sudden large black screen notification pops up stating the file type is not support, yet underneath the file plays on, of course you can’t see anything except at the edges. Then eventually the video goes away and your back to list of your videos, yet the audio is still going. You have to go to the home page and restart the unit. Just hope you can remember where you’re at, because the box will NOT remember after the restart.

I don’t think I’ve had a firmware update in months ! ! !
I’ve all but give n up, if I could find another product that could stream from your PC, and support all the popular file formats, I’d leave this thing behind in a heartbeat.
