NOT DETECTED - WD My Book 3 TB USB 3.0 WDBFJK0030HBK-NESN

hi

i recently purchased this. less than am onth ago. and just opened it.   http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E3RH63A/ref=oh_details_o02_s03_i04?ie=UTF8&psc=1

i thought it was a simple plug and play hard drive but i can’t get my computer to detect it at all. am i missing something? i used disk management and even SeaTools.

i’ve tried 2 different computers. also tried changing the usb cables and the ac adapter. the flashing light turns on but that’s it.

i’m in cebu, philippines now. i had a family member ship this to me. if there’s anything seriously wrong with it can i get it serviced/replaced here?

Hi, if you go to the Disk Management window is the My Book recognized there? If it is, you can try to assign a drive letter manually. If you encounter any problem you can also try running a DLG test to rule out any possible hardware damage. Check the following links for more information.

How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows

it’s not showing up at all if i use disk management on the different computers i tried it on. i’ve tried different external hd’s and they work fine and are recognized.

i’ll try the data lifeguard diagnostics now.

EDIT: not showing up either using data lifeguard.

what other options do i have? is there a safe way to open it? i noticed that the usb connection on the external is very loose. the slightest movement the the cord comes off. although the LED light does turn on and remains on when plugged in.

Hi again, you can try using another USB cable or connecting the My Book power cable directly to the wall socket. If the problem continues, it would unfortunately appear to be faulty and needs to be replaced.

If you need to recover your files, you can contact any of the data recovery partners on the WD support page, some of them offer a free evaluation of your drive.

will opening the case. removing the hard drive and installing it directly into my motherboard affect the warranty?

Sorry for the delay. Yes, opening the My Book will void the warranty, I recommend you to contact tech support directly for assistance before you try to do anything.
