I plugged in a new MY PASSPORT ULTRA several months ago. The LED light is on and blinks as per the manual. It appears on my computer under This PC, drive E, as My Passport. I click on every file listed but they tell me nothing. I have no idea if this product is functioning, copying, downloading or what. Norton cloud will show me every file of mine in the cloud. I have to discontinue Norton and need this product to show me if it is copying my files. Did I miss something after I plugged it in? All very mysterious. Thank you for your help.

Does the manual mention WD Backup? That is the software used to backup your PC on the Passport. You would have known if it self started. So I doubt if it backuped anything. It probably just got the drive setup for your computer.
To get started go to the Windows Start program list and look for Western Digital or WD Discovery. Either case should list the six WD programs. If no WD folder or no programs go to the top of this screen and click downloads. Select Passport and list the programs and download each of the 6 there.
When in the Windows Start programs, select WD Backup. Then in the Backup window, select Help. You may have to use WD Drive Utiitiies and WD Security to setup. I suggest you omit any password if you are the only user, because if you forget the password, you may have to start all over again later on. You can also see what is on the drive by using the Restore option on the Backup screen. The Help list also includes a list of the type of files NOT backed up.
And the backup will use nearly double the space on the Passport of what is backed up from the PC. And it may be quite slow the first time (overnight).
