I have 4 external devices: 2 old WD Winchester and 1 Passport and 1 Passport Ultra. Only the Passport Ultra Backup software works. I don’t know if it was ever an option on the Winchesters. But the other Passport should have backup capabilities but I downloaded a ver 1.9 and it doesn’t work. Is there any way to get these devices to back up -other than the Ultra? It seems like every time they produce a new one something happens to the software for the old ones. Just purchaseda MYCloud and I’m almost afraid to try using it!!!
If you could provide the model numbers of the other drives, please do not post the serial numbers for privacy reasons, I can point you towards the correct backup software that was available at the time those drives were manufactured. I’ve been with Western Digital 7 years and have not heard of a “Winchester” model drive. The My Cloud drive comes with Smartware Pro, which when unlocked for free since you own a My Cloud, will allow you to use any USB drive, not just WD drives, as a backup destination.

WD Passport WD5000ME-01
2 Winchester WD400U017-RBN
The newer Passport Ultra (WDBBKD0030BBY-05) is working OK
When I download the spftware do i put it on the drive and then unzip? or
should it be unzipped on my computer and then just copy the .exe files to
the dirive?

The “Winchester” WD400U017-RBN is a much older 40GB Passport drive.
The Passport drive WD400U017-RBN did not come with any software.
The Smartware software would be unzipped and installed on the computer you want to backup, not the drive.
The .exe file is run on the computer to install the backup software. It will detect the My CLoud on your network and tell you are eligible for the Smartware Pro upgrade for free. You can then install the Pro version on three computers. The regular Smartware can be installed on as many computers that you want, the “Pro” version unlocks the features to backup to any USB drive. It will work with the My Cloud regardless if you use the regular or Pro version.

I have previously installed the software from the newest Ultra Drive on
my computer. Will it interfere with the new software for the MyCloud? So
far I have downloaded and installed WDSmartware, WD Access, and WDSync
and they are in my Win10 Start menu, but when I click on Access and Sync
nothing happens. No windows open. Nada! How can I use the software if I
don’t see anything. I have a 64bit computer. Could these programs not be
compatible with them?
With the issues you are now having, you would want to contact Technical Support for some help. It would be more efficient than going back and forth in the forums.
