I ordered the mybook 18tb recertified version last week and opened it yesterday to try it out.
Unfortunatly it won’t show up on my Imac. I tryed to locate it by the disk utility. But it didn’t work.
Also it makes a strong ticking noise and aswell some ‘heavy/deeper’ knocks if i explain it correctly.
I have a few older mybook’s 4/6 tb. But no issues with those at all. They make less noise also.
Could the mybook be broken or damaged? I checked aswel on the website to return it for another 18tb one. But seems like i have the last 18TB Recertified drive i guess.
Thanks for your quik response. I ordered it on the official western digital website. So there is no problem returing it. I’m just figuring out if there is something wrong with it. Never happened to me before thats why i reach out on this forum.
Well, you could try it in another Mac or PC to see if it connects. While they do undergo testing, the tests are pass/fail. Yours may have passed but just barely.
Thanks for the tip, i tryed it on a windows pc and then it showed up. There i formated it to Exfat.
Then checked it on my mac but only showed up in disk utilities.
And finally i to formated it to APFS.
