Netflix on Wd TV

Hi, i have 2 WDTV.  1 WDBYMN0000NBK-HESN and 1 WDBHG70000NBK-HESN

I know that the new model for Wd TV is WDBYMN0000NBK-HESN.  Apperently for a while it don’t have Netflix anymore.

Wd said early, that could release a firmware to enable Netflix on the new model.

What  can we do  to update the new model with the last firmware from the old model? The boxes have identical hardware as users said here.

Months ago someone said. I think was some topic here.  Don’t remember, but this is a license problem with netflix.

Like the old wdtv until 2013 that didn’t passthrough DTS-HD audio.  The last 2 firmware enabled it to DTS-HD.

I don’t have knowledge to this, but much probably it’s possible to install the firmware from old version on the new version.

Yes, the Netflix App appears … but when trying to login, there is an error (Unable to Sign In)

Most probably the *New* WDTV doesent have the Encryption Keys to access Netflix … and a “Firmware Update” will never fix that

Yes, i agree this is a “License problem with Netflix” … and any attempt by anyone to circumvent it … would be in big trouble !  :dizzy_face:

Eeveryone is on and on about no Netflix on wdtv.  tbh who cares.  Netflix is on like every other product know to mankind. imho who cares about netflix.  It’s a crappy service I wont be paying for ever.

Is this possible ? It’s based on the open source FW?

I don’t use netflix.

Already asked the “Custom” guys months ago … no (or not easily) WD changed a lot of code in firmware 1.02.17

BYW i still get “Out of Memory” message after watching Youtube Leanback on 1.02.17

But, i found that using Custom Firmware … there is a feature to create a “Swap” file on an attached USB Thumbdrive

Which seemed to solve the problem eg. Watched about a dozen Youtube videos without a out of memory message.

1.02.17 still leaks, didn’t knew that, only in youtube LB?

If possible, the future for gen3 would be compile the last gen open source for it.

I don’t know if there are proprietary binaries without open source than only run in the new model.

I’ll try to ask there.

Sorry i am some kind of  noob on this things, but:

-Are you sure all devices are capable and need to have some kind of encryption keys to make netflix work? All devices that connect netflix do this?

  • Have you tried to delete/disable your wdtv device on the netflix server?

(I remember i had some problems to connect more than 3 , 4 or 5 (don’t remember exactly) devices at netflix, and the solution was to disable that device, restart it , and then input login and password again. And worked until today)
