NetFlix = Flickering, snowy screen

Hi everybody… Just received my hub and am generally extremely pleased with the toy. The only issue I’ve discovered is the fact that I’m unable to watch NetFlix movies… I can see the menus, flip thru the queues, etc., but once I select a movie to watch, all I’m getting is a flickering screen full of snow. Can’t see a thing.

I’ve searched high and low for help but it seems most people have issued accessing their account, so that doesn’t apply.

And yes - I’ve tried rebooting/resetting/re-everything/installed latest firmware/deactivated/re-activated account/etc…

Any suggestions?

Could you describe the snow?

Is it something like this?

or something like this?

or maybe something like this?

or this?

Also tell us about your set up - wired, wireless, etc. network card manufactuer and model? if wireless, wireless card model? What other devices do you have on the network? tell us about them…

Same for me also. Im trying to find a fix but no luck yet

Hi there Ardvark… I’m gonna’ go with option number 2 - the good ol’ fashioned gray/white snowy screen. Add to this that I also get the same result when trying to preview anything from Blockbuster.

I first used a wired connection but switched to wireless last night - same result. It’s all running thru a AirPort Extreme and I haven’t had any issues with anything else.

Had no problems with NetFlix when I ran it all thru my PS3 or Roku XDS, it’s only since I switched over to the Live Hub, so I don’t see how it could have anything to do with the TV. Also used an AppleTV for a while - without problems.

Everything else works just fine… Pandora, YouTube, etc. Movies (avi, mkv, etc.) also no problem. The only issue is trying to get anything from NetFlix or Blockbuster.

Thanks for any help… Realize this is not that widespread, so a solution may not be as simple as I had hoped. But it’s still good to brainstorm…

That sounds like your TV might have issues decoding the HDCP stream. Essentially it’s copy-protection that Netflix puts on its videos, and the WD TV passes along. For more information see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection

Looks like WD posted an article on this issue, in case anyone else has this issue:

That’s good to know.   Thanks for posting that, Ardvark!

I’ve got the same issue here.

I have a Samsung 52" LCD.

Anyone know of a firmware update to resolve this issue?

Thanks for the article post.

I had this problem with a prior display, when I was using an LCD computer monitor, using HDMI to DVI adapter.  I could see al l the Netflix menu stuff, and even after selecting a movie, I could see the little panels when you fast forward or back up, but I couldn’t see the movie itself, though I could hear it.  I expected it was an HDMI handshake issue and the WD “not my department” comment mentioned by another person seems to support that. The problem resolved when I got a real TV with direct HDMI port.

Good Luck!
