Need help with access content

I am trying to find out how to access the files listed as “Other” that are taking up so much storage space.
I use Mycloud to back up my computer. Is it keeping every backup?
I’m hoping this image is visible.

Use your favourite file manager to access the shares.

Depending on the setup of your backup utility, yes, it could be keeping multiple copies.

What backup utility are you using?

What files do you think should be on the MyCloud? Do you have music or videos on it? Because it doesn’t look like it. The pie chart is only accurate for media if you have cloud access enabled, and it recognises your media file types.

Have you read the User Manual? Here is a link for the UM for the 2nd generation My Cloud. See page 33.

Other is for files/documents other than Videos, Photos, and Music.

Do you have Word, Excel, PDF or other documents backed up to your My Cloud?

See example image below showing some of what is on my My Cloud. I have three shares, Horace, Public and SmartWare. I also have my Laptop, Desktop and items from my phone backed up on my My Cloud. You will see the folders for Music, Pictures, Video and Videos, plus a lot more that would fall under Other.

I really only got it to back up my computer. I have found it confusing and not sure how to use. No music on it at all. Was surprised to see pics because I never paid attention to how to back them up.

It just seems like an awful lot of space has been used up and I don’t know what it is or how to see it. I get frustrated every time I look at the mycloud so not sure how to use.

I’m pretty tech savvy and this thing makes me feel like an ■■■■■.

Are you using one of the WD utilities? SmartWare? Sync? They’re a bit clumsy, and not particularly reliable. Third party utilities are available, including free ones. They might be a bit more intuitive to use.

As I said, use your favourite file manager to access the shares on the MyCloud. Read the user manual linked above.

The following comes from SmartWare, which is what I use to backup my devices. Maybe it will help as it shows most of the extensions that are backed up in Documents, Mail etc…

Read the My Cloud User Manual (https://support.wdc.com/product.aspx?ID=904) to learn how to use your My Cloud and it’s features. If you have installed WD Sync or WD Smartware/Mac Time Machine that would account for the files being stored on your My Cloud if you have not manually copied files to the My Cloud using Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder.
