Need help. windows 7 wont show wd live plus in network. want to transfer files to wd live

hey all.

im having an issue with my windows 7 (64bit) pc.  the issue is that when i go into networks the WD Live Plus is not being shown under the “computers” tab. its only being shown under the media devicecs tab. i used to be able to connect and browse my entire external hard drive thats connected to the WD live plus from my computer? now for some reason is not showing up.

I also have a macbook air (with OSX 10.7.2) and im able to connect to the drive with my mac??? so apperently if i can connect from my mac its an issue with windows?

how can i go about fixing this. i would like to be able to transfer new video files from my computer to it and also watch videos from my drive on my computer.

thanks

I think you are clicking in the wrong place.  Try this in Win7:

Click on Start button. on bottom left, select “Computer”

You will see a menu down the left side for things such as Favorites, Library, etc down to Computer and Network.  You need to open the Network drop down menu by using the little arrow on the left side of the menu option.  If you oepn the Nework menu you will see all your drives, incl the WDTV.  It has a dropdown menu that shows the drives attached to it.

What you described seeing is what one sees if they click on the WORD NetworK,  (not the arrow) which is different stull alltogther.  Yea, agree; it’s confusing, especially when Computer shows basically the same stuff via the arrow or by a click on the word Computer.

if i clicked on the arrow or to word netowork, i would only see my personally pc (that im on) i would not see WDTVDEVICE

i just did a system restore to a date before this was an issue and it solved it. now im seeing it!!!

haven no idea what happened but its working now so im not going to question it LOL. hopfully it does not disappear again

After hours of research, I found WD link software. The application will find your WD Live Hub on your network. My laptop with Windows 7 couldn’t see it. I was unable, like many of you, to transfert files from my laptop to HD.  You can download it here:

Enjoy

Congrats for finding WDLink.  So, did you also download the user manual when you were in the support section?

You might have had this program on the CD that came with your HUB, but since WDLink looks to be a new “flavor” of the  previous program, that was called WD Discovery that served the same purpose as WD Link, you may have missed seeing WD Discovvery and using it.

My Live Plus came with WD Discovery, and when I tried using it, it malfunctioned.  So, I immediately went to the WD support area and looked for a new version (it was 1.80) I installed it and it all worked.

So, I notice that WD Discovery is not in the support area for the Live Plus now.  In it’s place is WDLink.  I’ve downloaded it and will give it a try someday soon to see what’s new and different.

Thanks for sharing the rest of your story with us – lesson learned for me – to check the Support area for my Live Plus more frequently.
