I bought a WDTV Live and I am having every imaginable problem and I dont know if it is me or the unit. My current firmware is out of date I went on WD website downloaded it onto a flash USB stick and plugged it in and followed the WD websites instructions. However the device (WDTV LIVE) did not automatically recognize the firmware update on the stick as the site said it should and when it told me to locate it in a file with a icon called firmware update the only option I had was to connect online which leads me to my next problem which is I have wired a connection from my router to the device and tried Automatic and nothing happens I tried what I thought was the correct info for manual and again same thing if anyone has any ideas on why the device doesn’t read the firmware on the USB key but picks up movies etc on it or how I can connect to to a update that way I would greatly appreciate it
I had to double check and I do own the Live + thought I had the live but I did just download the Live+ B and it had the same affect did recognize it when I plugged it in and ive seen videos on you tube that show a file folder in settings that says new firmware however I dont have that either.
The Live Plus has 2 USB ports. Did you try the USB stick in both ports? Also, after you unzip the new firmware file, make sure that you put the 3 update files in the root directory of the USB stick.
Somehow not sure how the main Western Digital Firmware upgrade was found on my USB key and uploaded. Since this worked I have tried using the B-Rad version and back to 0 luck with this POS! All I want this device to do is show movie sheets I have thumbgen and all my movie sheets are ready to go but apparently I need this download to work and my device no matter what I do will not find it on the USB stick. Why?
If the stock WD firmwares work for you, but WDLXTV won’t, then you’ll have to ask them for help.
I’d guess you’re trying the wrong version, and that’s why it’s not recognized, since there’s versions for the Gen1, the Gen2, the Live and the Plus, and then there’s the flashable versions and the ext3 versions. But they’d be the ones to help.
