MyBookLive vs MyCloud - please help me decide

Note: in the following post, all references to MyCloud are to the device, not the WD service.

I use a 2 TB MBL for files needed by 2 desktop PCs and one laptop - all public shares. I also write backups of the laptop to MBL, but desktop backups are taken to USB-attached drives.

I want to create Safepoint backups of the MBL shares so I need another NAS device. Also, Windows does not allow simultaneous access to both public and private shares (or multiple private shares with different credentials) on a single NAS drive by a single user. If I want to have a private share in addition to the public shares I need it on another device. (Dumb restriction in Windows!)

I use no streaming services. I don’t need access via the web - just from devices on my LAN. (In fact I’d like to block access via the web.) No real need for RAID. Therefore, I don’t see any reason I need a MyCloud drive, but I’ve heard it has a cleaner UI and better dashboard features than MBL. Is this true? Would I just be wasting money getting MC rather than MBL?

Hello, the WD My Cloud has a faster processor, more RAM, easier dashboard with more features. I’ve used the My Book live and the My Cloud, and I would choose the My Cloud every time, basically for one reason, can do everything the My Book Live can, but faster.

I’ve seen reports that show the data transfer on MyCloud is slower than on MyBookLive. Is that only if it is configured for RAID?
