Following instructions on this WD NAS, and when trying to enable “Remote Access” I am taken to a link that should have been maintained by WD Support team, but it is not!
RemoteAcess > Configure> Connections Options Menu has a link on “Show Me” that takes me to
this WD webpage: http://support.wdc.com/instructions/?ID=8526
There is a message in this page “PLEASE SELECT THE PRODUCT FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CONFIGURE PORT FORWARDING” but MyBookLive is not there!!
The knowlegebase does not seem to have instructions either. Is it that this functionality did not really ever worked at all?
I appreciate anyone providing instructions. Hopefully WD Tech Support will just post them.
Unfortunately, the MyBookLive and MyCloud setup doc mentions port forwarding without suggesting why you might or might not want it. For instance, FTP of SSH access limited to a LAN should not require port forwarding, but the doc say to set it up. Not good!
Hi, I just want to enable “Remote Access” to MBL. I am in the DASHBOARD (NAS Admin webpage) and navigating through it as follows: Setting>Remote Access> Configure, then the section:
“Configure settings for remote access to your My Book Live.” under “Connetion status” shows this message “Port forwarding failed to connect on port 8082 and port 8443 . (Error 31526)”.
The following section displays options to configure the ports which I know it has to happen.
Also, the WD 2nd level tech support guy who was helping me out with another problem said it needed to be configured. This section has the following at the bottom: “Manually configure your router to work with your My Book Live. Show me” The Showme is a link that does not work and hence I created this comment to the WD Community…Hopefully Tech Support will post the document, if it was ever created…
Please note that Remote Access is supposedly needed when accessing files using WD2go (My Cloud) web site…which is what I want to do. This does not work.
I found this in the manual. It states why you may not be accessing the ports. Also, the original KB article was removed because it was outdated. I’m looking to get the info for you, though.

Make sure that remote access is enabled (checkbox is checked), then change the connection option to Manual. Set WD 2go port 1 and 2 to the ports you wish to forward.
Note: For the remainder of this document we will use the example of setting WD 2go port 1 to 8080 and WD 2go port 2 to 8443.
Verification on the My Book Live and My Book Live Duo:
Once you have configured your router for port forwarding, access your My Book Live’s Dashboard again to verify you have properly forwarded the ports. For assistance doing this, please follow the instructions below:
If your setup is correct it will look like the circled area. If it does not, verify your settings are correct. If they are, please contact your router manufactuer for additional assistance.
