\\MYBOOKLIVE\ doesn't appear in Network (Vista)

Today I noticed that \MYBOOKLIVE\ no longer appears as an icon in my Network folder.

It does display the “MyBookLive-Twonky” media server, as well as the MyBookLive UI icon. But no network icon. And if I attempt to type \MYBOOKLIVE\ as an address I’m told “Windows cannot access \MyBookLive”. Nor can I map a drive letter to the network.

And yet I am able to FTP to the drive, and it passed the short test without any reported issues.

I’m perplexed. This is a critical issue as it’s denying me proper access to some important files.

Can anyone advise what the problem might be and how to resolve it?

Oh yes, and “MyBookLive” is definitely the device name - I checked in the UI.

[this post redacted - original problem still applies.]

Try mapping to it by IP addres…

\[ip address of mbl]\Sharename

good thought, but I get the same response: “Window cannot access…”

Any other ideas?

further investigation shows something weird…  Both the MBL and my PS3 have an IP of 198.168.1.3. That can’t be right can it? I thought they all had to have different IPs. Router reboot perhaps?

If that doesn’t work, is there some way I can assign a new IP to the MBL?

Oooh, yeah, that’s bad…  Two devices cannot share the same IP address.

If you are using “Dynamic Addressing,” or “DHCP”, then yes, reboot the router, then reboot both the PS3 and the MBL.

They should be given new, unique addresses.

If they are not, then changes are either the MBL or the PS3 has been given a manual IP address that the ROUTER thinks is under its control as a DHCP server.

OK, I’ve rebooted the router and it hasn’t made any difference. I think I was seeing the previous IP of the PS3 before it was switched off. All devices are being given a unique IP via DHCP. And there’s still no Network option for the drive.

OK, it seems to be fixed. I noticed another computer was having the same issue which pinpointed the problem at the MBL. I restarted the MBL and that seems to have done the trick - full access has been restored.
