MyBook not recognized by my iMac

Hi Folks,

my WD My Book External HD suddenly stopped working on my iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017):

it is no longer shown in the finder; when I launch the Disk Utility, the App hangs frozen until I physically disconnect the device.

At first I thought the disk was broken, anyway as I plugged it into my Windows Desktop it perfectly worked as no issue ever happened

A few facts:

  • I noticed poor performance since I upgraded to Mojave

  • when I plug the disk the WD Discovery App is automatically launched, anyway no space left information is shown

  • the diskutil utility shows me the Disk as if it were clearly recognized

$ diskutil list

/dev/disk4 (external, physical):

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER

0: GUID_partition_scheme *3.0 TB disk4

1: Microsoft Basic Data My Book 3.0 TB disk4s1

Anyway if I try with verifyDisk it hangs frozen like this

serenoternullo$ diskutil verifyDisk /dev/disk4

Started partition map verification on disk4

It seems to me like something got broken with the USB Driver, or something like that.

Fortunately all my data are accessible from my Windows Desktop and nothing got lost (so far)

I wish I could use this disk back to my iMac !

Thank you all for your help !

The disk is already formatted as ExFat and it is perfectly usable by a Windows machine, no need to format. It seems to me like a kind of conflicts with drivers of Mojave, or something like that.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
