Hello
I bought the above identified device inlate July and all was well until earlier.
Now it is not recognised by a Windows 7 PC or another using Windows 10 PC. Both PCs recognised the drive previously, so it is not a PC fault.
The WD DLGDIAG tool I have is unable to complete tests to diagnose the disk as well.
It returns the following:
Quick test on drive 2 did not complete!
Status code = 04 (Unknown failed test element), Failure Checkpoint = 96 (Unknown test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive 2!
Drive 1 is another WD device which functions perfectly. Can anyone advise?
Thanks
Mr Graverol.

Hello,
Another user was experiencing a similar issue.
See if the following link helps

Thanks for the information and I tried the HDSentinel program. Its advice was very simple, i.e. replace the drive!
So that must be the thing to do. Fortunately it is under warranty anyway.
Still, it’s a surprise to have a WD drive fail after only a month!
Have you tried connecting the drive with a different USB cable or port? Also, does the drive appear in Disk Management or Device Manager?
If not it could indicate a hardware failure.
Your WD drive may be failing. Try these steps:
- Check Cables & Ports – Use a different USB cable and port.
- Disk Management – See if the drive appears in Windows Disk Management (it may need reinitialization).
- WD Lifeguard Extended Test – If it fails, the drive is likely faulty.
- Try Another PC or OS – Test on a different system to confirm.
If none of these work, the drive may need replacement. Backup any recoverable data ASAP.
