My passport ultra - Warranty question

Hi,

A short while ago my passport started clicking and beeping and died.
I have almost 2Tb of really important data to me on it.
To my knowledge if i send back with RMA all data will be wiped.

I need to get this data but also cant afford another drive now so would need t replace byRMA

My question is if i take it apart and connect via sata cables to retrieve data would that void my warranty? im guessing yes but i need to get this data back you understand.

It seems im stuck between a rock and a hard place?

Anyone know of a way to get data off these drives other than that? its not recognized any more by a pc- the cable has been tested okay.

Thanks,
Regards,

Opening your hard drive without prior (And documented) approval from WD will void your unit’s warranty. I’d recommend contacting WD Support in this particular case to see if an exception can be provided. However, bear in mind WD Passport drives are hardware-encrypted, which means a direct SATA connection does not guarantee data access.

Thanks Trancer!

I didn’t know they were hardware-encrypted but i really hope they will allow an exception.

Thanks so much for your response, i have found some hope from it.
