My Passport Ultra existing partition not recognized in Windows 11

Hi,

I have got My Passport Ultra external USB driuve (WD My Passport 0827 USB Device) with USB-A cable, which works very well under Windows 10. However, when connected to Windows 11, the device is found, but no partition / volume are recognized.

I have tried everything possible: update drivers, change cables, change USB port, install WD Discovery and WD Drive Utilities, nothing helped. Windows Disk Management Utility shows the disk as online, but not assigned any volume and gives me only option: to crete new simple volume. But I am affraid, such a step destroys all the data stored.

What am I supposed to do?

Thanks for help.

Your WD My Passport Ultra shows up in Windows 11 but doesn’t display any partitions, even though it works fine on Windows 10. That tells us the data’s still there, but Windows 11 just isn’t reading the partition or file system right. Since Disk Management only gives you the option to create a new simple volume, don’t do it—it’ll wipe everything. The smart move is to hook the drive back up to a Windows 10 machine and copy your important files off while you can. If that’s not an option, use recovery tools like TestDisk, R-Studio, or Stellar Data Recovery to pull the data without formatting. Once your files are safe, reformat the drive under Windows 11 so it runs smooth, then load your data back onto it.

Well, as we speak about almost 1TB, I have tried another way: assigning a volume letter using another, commercial partition manager. And it worked! SOLVED!

Thanks for the help anyway…
