My Passport SSD Not Recognised

I purchased a WD My Passport SSD 512g External HD less than a week ago and it seemed to be working absolutely fine (using it for my Lightroom catalogue). I plug it in today and nothing. Desktop Mac unable to see the drive and using the WD utilities not helping. WD Utilities can see the drive but it won’t erase it. I’m currently using a complete drive test but I’m not hopeful. Is this just a glitch with this drive or should I return it and perhaps go with another brand?
