My Passport Not Recognized

My Passport 1tb external isnt recognized by my Dell laptop.
What is the process to correct this problem.

Did it previously work before? Is it brand new?

Thanks for your note. Yes, the drive previously showed up on the attached drive list on Windows. But here’s some interesting info.

When I attach the My Passport, and then check the devices page, the My Passport icon is displayed. When I right click on the icon, and then click through the folders in the resulting pop up, it says the device is working properly. As well, when I visit the task bar to click on the icon to disconnect the drive, low and behold the text pops up to eject the Passport! And that process works fine.

So, it seems it is connected to the PC, but for some reason the PC will not display the drive on the list of folders that includes the C: drive.

Here, first of all I suggest you to try the below solutions & check if that works:

  1. Plug the drive into another USB port
  2. Change USB cable
  3. Change drive letter
  4. Reinstall USB controller
  5. Update WD device driver
  6. Run anti-virus software
