My Passport 071A Smart Status FAIL - is my data recoverable?

Hello all,

My rather old 500GB My Passport 071A (USB) external HDD has recently stopped working with Windows 10 OS. I’m getting messages like:

“The disk in drive F: is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?”

“You need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it”

“chkdsk can not be run on the drive. The type of the file system is RAW. CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives.”

The drives gets a FAIL result when I run the WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics tool. When I go into Properties, the Health Status is WARNING. The Quick Test in WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics stops after just 8 seconds of an estimated 5 minutes - Status code 04 = (Unknown failed test element)

Could somebody please explain to me what the above results mean?

I have successfully recovered some mp3s and videos using the free version of Recuva but I would like to know what kind of state the drive is currently in according to the information above.

Cheers, thanks for reading!

Hello,

According to the DLG result your drive has failed or is about to fail. I recommend you recover all data and store it on another drive.
