Hi,
I have been using the My Cloud Single Bay for a few years and have been really satisfied.
But now the old My Cloud reaching its storage limit and I would like to buy a new My Cloud Home that provides me with more storage space.
Since the first day, I have been operating the old My Cloud completely offline and without any WD accounts and WD apps. I only use user profiles and shares -especially the NFS shares- that are created locally on the My Cloud and only in my internal network.
So now my question to you … Is that still possible with the newer My Cloud Home, or do I have to set up and use a WD account or app and run everything over the WD server?
It would be really great if someone can help me there.
thx
My Cloud Home is totally different from My Cloud.
If you are looking for something similar, this is not the device you want to buy.
You can use MCH as a local shared, but you won’t be able to rename it, rename the folder, or even create users. It will be accessible to everyone on the network without any restrictions.
And in case you want to use it online, the cloud service and the local shared are 2 different partitions.
You won’t be able to access you local files from the cloud or the cloud files from your local shared.
I do recommend that you surf this community and see what other users think of this product before making any decision that you might regret.
Hi guy´s
Thanks for your answers. I also received an answer from WD support as well. It is not possible, because the My Cloud Home is not the real successor to the My Cloud, that would be the My Cloud Ext2 Ultra.
The My Cloud Home must be connected to the Internet so that you can access your data.
No internet = no data.
