I have the regular 4tb (white) my cloud. When im away from home I cant get videos to stream correctly. I was wondering if I buy the My cloud ex4 if anyone knows if it streams better. I know it has plex and seems like it has a faster processor and built in memory. I also wonder if all the drives need to be the same size for it to work and if they need to be the WD red
I love the idea of the cloud but havent been able to get it to work correctly outside of my home
Are you certain you do not have an uploading bottleneck? When streaming remotely your data upload speed is extremely important alongside data caps, and these are ISP-specific. While the WD My Cloud EX4 is a faster product than the regular WD My Cloud, the same considerations and limitations are applied to both when streaming remotely.

Is there a way to tell if it is the isp or hardware?
As a starting point, what’s your current data upload speed based on your contract? And what’s the actual speed you get on sites such as speedtest.net ?
For your PLEX server check out Synology
DiskStation DS214play
or QNAP Turbo NAS w/ HDMI out
Correct-o-mundo! You are right on the money…the two best NAS units on the market for the money.
QNAP kicks WD’s [[DELETED]] all to **bleep** and back.
Can’t say anything about the Synology unit, although I almost bought one when I was looking and ended up with my QNAP 469Pro.
The only NAS device I have that is worse than this EX4 is a Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ that I’ve had for a couple of years or so…
It just makes me angry that I have at least $800 invested in this piece of garbage and can’t do anything to improve it. And, it won’t sell with the error messages now produced because of the latest firmware update. Nor can I access any admin tools. Pure bull hockey!
I’ll never spend another dime on WD except for HDDs…they make the best on the market, imo. It’s too bad that their NAS devices are a whole 'nother story. But, that may be how they ■■■■■■ us in…the great reputation on HDDs is what sells people on their NAS units…I guarantee it.
