My Book works for awhile on Windows 10 then drops off

I have a WD My Book external drive that I recently plugged into my new computer. It seems to work fine for awhile then I get and error message that the drive has failed and can no longer be recognized. I have folowed the suggests to plug the usb into the back of the computer and the power cord directly into the power source. However, the drive still drops off after several hours. When I unplug the power cord and plug it in again everything is fine for several hours then suddenly the drive disappears again. It has 3.63 TB of storage so I am reluctant to just abandon it. I have three other WD My Books connected to the same computer and they are all working just fine.

Hi,

It is recommended to connect the hard drive directly to the computer’s USB port and avoid a USB hub, try out different USB cables and USB ports. You may also run diagnostics on the drive to determine its health status.
