My book losing connection with computer and


I have a 2T My Book connected to my Mac.  For the first few months it was working great.  Now when on the computer for awhile the drive “disappears”.  While the “WS SmartWare” still shows, the “My book” is gone. The only way to get it to recognize it again is to disconnect the power cord and reconnect.

Also, the performance in the past few days has become extremely slow - I have 1.87T of available space so that should not be the issue.

Additionally I tried copying files over to it yesterday and kept getting errors saying that it was not a recognizable format (these are TIF files…just an updated version of the file I’ve been saving on it for the past three months).

Are others experiencing this?  Thoughts as to what is causing this?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
