My wife has a My Book Live where she has stored archives of digital photographs for her photography studio. When I hook it up to our network, I can view the MY BOOK LIVE dashboard using my web browser after clicking on the drive under Storage in the Network section of File Explorer. I’m running Windows 11.
The dashboard includes the menu items of Settings, Users, Shares, Backups, and Support. At the bottom of the screen it lists the name of the drive and shows Status:Good with the Usage and the file type is all green indicating Photos.
How do I access these files stored on it? I see the Shares available, but I have no idea how to access a point where I can login to view the files. Is it possible to map a drive to it?
My wife hasn’t used this drive in such a long time that she’s forgotten how to access it.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, you should be able to “map” a network drive and have it show in Windows Explorer (File manager).
In Explorer (File Manager) select Expand Network (it may take a few seconds to expand). You should see the same of your NAS (Mine is WDNAS for my EX4). Then expand it. You should see all the shares. If you click on a share that not “Public”, it should prompt for a login. Enter the credentials and it should open (you can check the box to remember your credentials if desired. If the share is “Public”, it should open without the login prompt.
If you right mouse click on the share, you should see “Map Network Drive” near the bottom of the menu. Select it, the pick an unused drive letter and if desired, check reconnect at login. That way the drive will stay mapped after reboot.
