I have a 1TB My Book that I’ve had for over a year. Worked perfectly until one day when I went to run the unlock exe and it looks like the prompt is somehow bugged.
Oder of operations:
-Run the unlock
-Bugged prompt pops up
I’ve never seen this before it happened…even on the drive I had for years before. Any ideas? The drive isn’t ticking or anything that would point to a failing drive. I can feel/hear it spinning.
Windows 7 64 Bit
Any pointers would be GREATLY appreciated!
Hi,
WD has changed things lately. In Downloads look for WD Security and install it. When you run it you should get a different screen for your password.

Clifford,
Thanks for the reply. The new .exe at least brings up a non-buggy prompt but now I’m getting this:
I’ve restarted as well.
Also, it’s recognized in my device manager and in My Computer but the prompt doesn’t see it.
I’ve also downloaded the newest utils. and WD Discovery .exe. Same thing, attach a WD device.
Hi,
This is a common problem, usually when changing drives or computers. Look under the Support Tab for your drive and I think you will find help there. Also look for a similar topic in this WD Community.

I’m not finding a solution so far…
Any admins that can help? This is beyond frustrating. I’ve submitted an email to support last week with no response still. How is this such a prevalent issue with no concrete fix?
The drive is recognized in My Computer and the device manager but I still cannot get the WD Discovery exe. to see it attached. I’ve stopped and started the process and still nothing. I’ve also swapped out the USB cable, changed USB drives.
Also, according to the “supported drives” page, my WCC serial drive is not supported…!!!
PS
Is it normal for the drive to be recognized on the CD drive like this? Opening that gives me the jumbled prompt from my first post.
Shows on my device manager:
To add more to this,
-Pulled the drive from the enclosure, went SATA direct. Booted up, before BIOS, it prompted me for a password, (I assumed it was for my WD drive). My password wouldn’t work. Unplugged it from my motherboard, put a different WD drive I had laying around in the My Book enclosure and bam. The prompt worked and I was able to access an older WD drive pulled from an older My Book.
For some reason, it refuses to recognize my newer My Book drive but the old one works just fine with the password prompt.
