I plugged my 2 year old Passport Ultra into my new laptop, downloaded the software and then the files. I got a notice that the recycle bin on the device was corrupted and then my computer locked up. I unplugged the drive, restarted the computer, uninstalled the WD software and now the computer seems to be ok. Can the device be salvaged or do I need a new passport?

I would recommend you test the drive for any errors. You can use the WD’s utility program Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for this purpose.
Thank you. I dumped all the old files from the drive and ran the diagnostics. Reconnected the drive, installed the software backed up the computer files and now all seems ok.
