MP4 Videos Don't Play

Why won’t any MP4 format videos I upload play? So far I only have had luck with AVI format videos. I have tried on multiple devices through My Cloud. I can play the MP4 files just fine through all devices when not using My Cloud.

How exactly are you attempting to play them.

How are you accessing the MyCloud.

What are the multiple devices.

Can you see the mp4 files and if you can what happens then you attempt to play them.

Thanks for the reply…

I have tried playing the files on multiple smart TV’s and my computer. All of which can play the files with no problem when not going through My Cloud. The files do show up but when I try to play them it says something along the lines of: this file cannot be played.

So are you saying that all these devices are able to access the mycloud on your network and all of them bring up some sort of error message.

Are you connecting to the mycloud via the media server.

What happens if you access the drive directly via your PC.

Yes I can access My Cloud with all devices and play AVI video files. When I try to play MP4 files with the smart TV’s an error code reads “Audio codec not support, Video codec not support”. Which is odd because I usually use a USB thumb drive to play MP4 videos on the smart TV’s no problem. When I connect with MY Cloud on my computer through the App I downloaded for it, a message reads " ERROR MESSAGE, No default application associated with the .mp4 file extension."

Chances are, your TV doesn’t support many formats via DLNA, but can only support them via USB.

Exactly what brand and model # is your TV?

what is the app on your pc and can you normally play mp4 files on the pc.

You are correct, my TV does not support MP4 via DLNA but it does through USB. I read that other people have the same problem with Vizio smart TV’s. I was also able to fix the problem with my computer, it now plays the MP4’s via My Cloud. So I am assuming there is nothing I can do to my TV to be able to play MP4’s through DLNA?

I don’t know if anyone here can answer that.  You’d be better off asking Vizio.

Travis408, I have the same message played on my mac. I can access files but cannot open them (videos). I could before I installed the WD software. How did you get files to eventually play on your computer? I’m thinking I should uninstall the WD software. I could play all files on my computer from the WDlive via wifi before I downloaded the cloud software. Your thoughts? ANy help appreciated.

Thanks

I have exactly the same problem with my MacBook Pro running Maverics.

As soon as installed the WD Cloud software I could no longer use the training videos that I have been using without problems.

If I try to open any MP4 video, the WDCloud software starts up and just show my connected storage.

I’m getting desparate and can only ‘assume’ that If I remove WDC, it will all work again.

Anyone got an answer to this problem?

get rid of WD Cloud software and use vlc
