Am a new Cloud user and am confused on managing friends. I’ve added myself on trial and realised:
That this new “user” has a personal private folder. Can I possible add a friend without giving them to rights to own a personal folder? This cloud is meant for sharing of the public folders and all uploads should be to the public folder. We dont intend to allow any of the new user to have a personal folder and upload their personal files.
That this new user’s personal folder does not appear on my dashboard?
Is it possible to open a new folder under my cloud and not under Public or my private folder?
You should start by reading the My Cloud User Manual (http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/?id=439&type=25) if you have not done so already. It explains how to configure access for Users, how to set a Share to Private, and how to set permission access to a Private Share.
Generally when a User account is created through the My Cloud Dashboard a Share for that user is created as well. The Share initially is configured for Public Access and the Media Serving is activated. One can use the My Cloud Dashboard to configure all Shares, except the default main Public Share, to Private and set User permission access (No Access, Read Only, Full Access) to those Private Shares.
At this time the default main Public Share cannot be set to Private through the My Cloud Dashboard and will be accessible to any and all who can access the My Cloud. Unofficially the default main Public Share can be set to private but doing so requires the use of SSH. Do a forum search for more information on how to disable the default main Public Share. Further any media in Private Shares will be accessible to DLNA clients if Media Serving is enabled on those Private Shares.
