Macbook will not recognize passport

one week ago it worked fine and now my macbook pro will not recognize my external hd

have turned off and restarted

unplugged and replugged…

no avail

I also upgraded the software  and now my passbook does not work.  I can hear it whirring in there but my mac will not recognize the device.  I took it to the Best Buy where it was purchased, had it examined by one of their geeks.   He took it apart and tried to hook it up another way but the device did not allow this maneuver.  His one sentence evaluation was “Your drive is toast.”  Since it was purchased in February, it’s well under warranty but I will be losing a lot of pictures…

did you get it fixed? im going crazy cause i have the same problem. help me please!!!

Me too, my Passport Studio Edition 500 GB drive worked fine - for ten weeks.  First one, then all three partitions ceased to appear.  Disk Utility and TechTool don’t see it.  It whirrs and clicks when I plug it in, Firewire or USB, then goes quiet.  I used it with a Mac Mini G4 1.5 GHz, OS 10.4.11

it just happened to me, i updated firmware and part 2 and now my macbook pro will not recongize my external harddrive and like many of you, i am upset. I have my itunes running from that ex hd. any solutions?

would it be okay to try to run it from a pc and then copy it back? im concerned about formatting which will erase all my stuff :(

you should look in the thread

External HD not working after firmware update

for the workaround.

You must run the firmware installaer from w m$ windows machine, then connect it to the mac and your drive will be back. The mac firmware updater bricks the drive.

I’m having the same problem and I cannot open the link. :frowning:
